Kenya to resume flights to Somalia amid efforts to fix ties

MOGADISHU, Somalia -- Kenya's decision to halt flights to and from Somalia is believed to have eventually dashed with some sources obtained by KON suggesting that Nairobi is on the way to resuming the commercial flights.

Following the closure of Somalia’s airspace to planes from neighboring Kenya, it had a devastating impact on its Khat trade as they were planning to open new markets for its citizens back home to import Miraa production to the breakaway region of Somaliland and Puntland state as well.

However, Keydmedia Online understands that Kenya will soon announce its resumption of Somalia’s flights as the diplomatic ties between the two that was slowly gaining momentum urgently stopped following the Nairobi declaration of a ban on Mogadishu flights – something, the country’s Civil Aviation Minister, Duran Ahmed Farah described as a move to the wrong direction.

The bilateral ties between Kenya and Somalia deteriorated as the nations engaged in a big quarrel over the sea boundary dispute and with Mogadishu accusing Nairobi of meddling into its internal affairs, mainly in Jubbaland – that it should manage in its own secrecy.
