MOGADISHU, Somalia – The new director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] began changes to the heads of the spy agency’s departments and top brass after taking office this week.

Mahad Salad, who was a long-serving member of the Somali parliament has appointed Mogadishu intelligence chief and new NISA Commander at Aden Adde International Airport as part of the reform.

Muhiddin Mohamed Jimale [Warbac] was named to lead NISA operations in the capital while Colonel Hamdi Hassan Mohamud, a female office will be in charge of the airport, which is a key finance source.

Keydmedia Somali service has obtained credible information confirming that Iman Elman, the daughter of late well-known activist Elman Ali Ahmed, has been appointed as the new NISA Finance Director.

The Somali-Canadian military colonel replaces Abbas Yaqub, a close ally of former NISA director Fahad Yasin who was fired last year by PM Roble for his role in a high-profile assassination of Ikran Tahlil Farah.

Farah, 25, who was NISA’s cybersecurity department head disappeared in mid-2021 and later the agency announced she was abducted and killed by Al-Shabaab, a claim that the terror group denied.

The girl's family still seeking justice after the military court has cleared the perpetrators - Fahad Yasin, Abdullahi Kulane [Now MP], Yasin Farey [Now MP], and one other last year during Farmajo's residency.

Iman’s family, her mother Fartun, and her sister Ilwad currently run the Elman Center for Peace and Human Rights advocating for peace after the death of their father who was killed in 1996 during the civil war.

Iman, who joined the Somali military in 2011, has survived several assassination attempts, is now a Colonel, and in recent years has worked closely with foreign partners providing training for the army.
