PM Hamza meets with World Bank Country Manager

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Prime Minister of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre today received at his office Kristina Svensson, World Bank Country Manager shortly after returning from Tunisia.

According to a statement from the office of the PM, both sides discussed the cooperation between the World Bank and Somalia and ways to enhance as the new government assumed office.

Kristina said the World Bank will fund various development projects in Somalia to help the country in tackling the ongoing drought that affected nearly 8 million, half of the Somali population.

For his part, PM Hamza thanked the World Bank for its support to Somalia during this critical time, the country is facing a humanitarian crisis and is on the brink of famine.

The meeting comes a day after the Federal States' ministries of finance said they suspended cooperation with the Federal Ministry of finance over $100 million package from the World Bank that is meant to support actions to enhance economic resilience and investment in sectors such as fisheries and renewable energy to create jobs and spur growth as Somalia continues to face climate-related shocks.
