PM will be held accountable for election and security – opposition 

The union of the candidates led by two former Somali presidents urged the PM to take steps to ensure the security of the country, in order to gain the trust of the public and the international partners.

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Council of the presidential candidates said in a statement that it welcomed Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble's full takeover of the country's elections and security issues.

In a statement dated May 2nd, the opposition alliance has expressed its readiness to work closely with Roble to hold free and fair elections in the near future after the Lowe House annulled the extension.

The union of the candidates led by two former Somali presidents urged the PM to take steps to ensure the security of the country, in order to gain the trust of the public and the international partners.

The CPC announced it was prepared to attend, if invited to the upcoming consultative meeting aimed at ironing out the dispute over the implementation of the September 17, 2020 election agreement.

“From 1st May 2021, the Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and his government will be held accountable for the elections and the security of the country,” reads the statement obtained by KON in part.

After the parliament gave him the green light to lead the nation’s election, Roble was asked to remain neutral in electoral matters and never try to take sides among the candidates vying for the top seat.

They have urged the PM to avert the troops rejected the extension from being subjected to revenge, including removing from the payroll by Farmajo who is still the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Roble is expected to call for a meeting between his government and the five Federal States plus the Mogadishu mayor who are the signatures of the Sep 17 deal to resume negotiations on the electoral process.
