Puntland fails to host a much anticipated election talks

GAROWE, Somalia - Puntland has failed to host crucial talks about elections and the current political situation in Somalia amid escalating deadlock between Farmajo and PM Roble.

The meeting was set to bring together the leaders of the five regional leaders to discuss the speed up of the elections and the bitter dispute between the outgoing president and the PM.

Sources close to the Puntland presidency said that the much-anticipated forum expected to kick off in Garowe on Tuesday, Sep 20 was canceled at the request of the Galmudug leader.

The cancellation of the Garowe conference came after talks between Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoor-Qoor and Prime Minister Roble in Mogadishu on Sunday night.

After the meeting ended, Qoor-Qoor asked his Puntland counterpart Said Abdullahi Deni to call off the talks with reports that the PM plans to convene the meeting in the Somali capital.

The leaders of the regional states are divided by the gridlock between Farmajo and Roble whose relations have soared over the murder of Ikran Tahlil, the intelligence female officer.
