Puntland leader forms an alliance against Hassan Sheikh

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The President of Puntland Said Abdullahi Deni is building a new coalition to undermine Hassan Sheikh's new government which is in office for six months, sources said.

This will be an obstacle to the efforts by Hassan Sheikh to rebuild the country and liberate Al-Shabaab from the remaining areas under its control in the ongoing military operations.

Deni has invited the leaders of Southwest and Galmudug Lafta-Gareen and Qoor-Qoor to a meeting that will be held in Garowe in the coming days to unite their muscles against Villa Somalia.

This move came after Deni failed in the May 2022 election for the President of Somalia in which he lost to Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who won re-election to the top seat of the country.

The new allies led by Deni include Lafta Gareen, a close friend of former president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo. He is now facing internal pressure after his legal term ended this month.
