Qatar envoy speaks about his presence in the Capital

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Qatari Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani has spoken about the objective of his trip to Somalia.

In an interview with Al Jazeera Arabic, Qahtani said he is in Mogadishu for the mediation of the electoral standoff between the Somali government and the opposition that turned into violence last week.

“My presence in Mogadishu is to help our Somali brothers come together and to find viable solutions to the current political turmoil and set the differences aside to ensure holding inclusive and fair elections in the country,” he said.

Al-Qahtani mentioned that he sees light at the end of the tunnel to resolve the stalemate, calling on the political leaders to engage in talks on the ongoing poll crisis.

Among the leaders, the envoy has met include Fahad Yasin and Farmajo although the meeting was not disclosed to the public as a joint conference attended by the government and its federal member states is expected to take place 20th May.

Qatar has been funding and closely supporting the outgoing President with all that he needed and now sought to seek who they can help win in the upcoming elections once again.
