MOGADISHU, Somalia - The "Qatar National Day" event in Mogadishu brought together Somali Federal Government officials and other leaders from the country's Federal States this week.

Qatar's new ambassador to Somalia Dr. Abdullah Salem Nasser Al Holi Al Nuaimi said that his country is keen to strengthen the relations with current leaders at Villa Somalia after Farmajo's ouster.

The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre in his speech talked about the relationship between the two countries, Qatar's assistance to Somalia, and their mutual interests.

The PM has congratulated Qatar for becoming the first Arab country to host the World Cup, saying it was a historic moment that all Muslim and Arab countries welcomed.

Qatar has implemented various projects in Somalia, including the Mogadishu-Afgoye 30-KM corridor and the Mogadishu-Bal'ad 30-KM road which were signed during Farmajo's regime.

Last October, Tamim Bin Hamad, Emir of Qatar, appointed Dr. Abdullah Al Nuaimi as Ambassador to Somalia by replacing Hassan Hamza, who assumed this office on Apr 2018.

Qatar and UAE are competing for the dominance of Somalia's affairs and their geopolitical rivalry left a bad impact on the country's politics and elections as both sides support their allied local leaders. Abu Dhabi seems taking over from Doha after the election of Hassan Sheikh in May 2022.
