Somali army ambush on Al-Shabaab convoy kills militants

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Troops from the Somali military backed by a pro-government militia killed dozens of militants following an ambush on an Al-Shabaab convoy in a southern region.

The SNA commanders leading the operation confirmed that the rare ambush took place in Halfoley, a key area that sits on the border between the Middle Shabelle and Hiran regions.

The troops acting on intelligence information carried out an ambush assault against Al-Shabaab fighters traveling to the Hiran region as reinforcements after the group faced defeat in the ongoing war.

Keydmedia Online could not independently verify the military claims as there are no independent sources confirming it. Al-Shabaab also did not comment on the reported attack against its fighters.

For the past couple of months, there has been intense fighting in central Somalia between the army with locals and Al-Shabaab which the US and AU troops are also involved, helping the SNA.

The government claimed to have recaptured over 40 villages and killed hundreds of militants in the current all-out affensive against Al-Shabaab in Hiran, Galgadud and Middle Shabelle regions.
