BELEDWEYNE, Somalia - Somali army along with a local militiamen fended off an ambush attack by Al-Shabaab on Wednesday in central region amid US airstrikes.
An official told KON that the SNA and their allied Ma'awisley militia engaged in a fierce battle in El-Adde just 60Km west of Beledweyne city.
The militants were pushed back from the area after facing a stiff resistance and suffered casualties, according to the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The attack shows how Al-Shabaab is desperate to destabilise the government-controlled areas in Hiran region," said another SNA official.
The details of the casualties remained murky and the government is yet to release statement regarding the attack which comes days after the PM visited liberated areas outside Beledweyne.
Beledweyne lies 350 kilometres North of Mogadishu, the Somali capital.
