The Somali government says it has killed more than 600 Al-Shabaab militants since the start of the war in August this year, taking over 100 villages, most of them in the Hiran region.
MOGADISHU, Somalia - The government forces are still making gains in the war against Al-Shabaab, having taken over large areas in the south and center of the country in the past three months.
The latest operation in the Middle Shabelle region, bordering the capital killed 40 members of Al-Shabaab, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Information on Thursday morning.
A copy of the statement obtained by Keydmedia Online mentions that the operation was carried out jointly by NISA and foreign forces, believed to be Americans who swept into the militant hideout.
The raid took place in Ali Foldheere, near Mahaday district, while there are no other details from the government about how it happened and when. Also, there is no independent verification.

Local residents who took arms against Al-Shabaab are helping the government in the current fight which President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud aimed to liberate the whole country from the group.
