MOGADISHU, Somalia - The National Consultative Council is scheduled to open a meeting in Mogadishu which brings together the Heads of the Federal Government and the Regional states.

The leaders will discuss the issues of Security, Drought, Fighting Al-Shabaab, and strengthening the relationship between the Federal Government and Regional states in Somalia.

The Presidents of the Jubbaland, HirShabelle, Southwest, and Galmudug reached Mogadishu on Saturday while Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni is expected to arrive in the coming hours.

The meeting is the first of its kind since the election of President Hassan Sheikh in May. It comes as Somalia is facing a severe drought which the UN warned will turn into famine by the end of this year.

Villa Somalia said the talks will continue one day as president Hassan Sheikh is expected to travel to Kenya, where he will attend the inauguration of William Ruto on September 13.
