Somali PM optimistic of holding trouble house election soon

The premier said the election will begin with the MPs of the northern regions that will be held in Mogadishu since their constituencies are under Somaliland which claims independence.

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble has expressed optimism about the commencement of the Lower House election in the country.

Roble made the remarks during a meeting with a Somali team that returned from The Hague on Saturday after witnessing the declaration of the ICJ judgment on the maritime case.

The premier said the election will begin with the MPs of the northern regions that will be held in Mogadishu since their constituencies are under Somaliland which claims independence. 

"I prayed every night for the Lower House election to start as soon as possible and end with no violence and further disruptions," said Somali PM on Saturday. 

The government and the regional states in the country are in the final preparations for the election of the 275-seat House Lower chamber after three-time postponements this year.

Somalia had long practiced a clan-based election system [4.5 formula] since 2000, whereas selected tribal delegates vote for the members of the parliament in a corrupt voting exercise. 

The joint two houses of the parliament - 54 senators and 275 Lower House MPs are expected to elect a new president, replacing Farmajo in the upcoming presidential ballot in Somalia.
