Somali troops carry out anti-al-Shabaab operations

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali National Army conducted operations in the surrounding countryside of Afgooye District in the Lower Shabelle region that recently liberated from al-Shabab militants.

Among the remote villages, the National Army carried out the operations include Waraaboole, Doonweyne, and Kaxaroow.

The government forces are making significant progress in the fight against Al-Shabaab militants who control large swathes of rural areas in the region where they usually conduct ambush, landmines, and launch attacks to oust the Western-backed government.

The military has recently apprehended six Al-Shabaab militants with their weapons after raiding an unidentified strong base somewhere in the Lower Shabelle region.

Since losing control of much of the country, Al-Shabab is posing a terror threat to the Somali government carrying out deadly attacks in the Capital and elsewhere in the country.
