The relations between Kenya and Somalia have been at a low point during the last two years of Farmajo's presidency. It came to normal after Mohamud's July visit to Nairobi, where he signed the aviation and Khat deal with Uhuru.

Kenya is a key partner for Somalia as its forces are part of AU's mission assisting the government in Mogadishu in the fight against Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda's powerful ally in East Africa.
