Somalia PM visits his hometown in Ethiopia

JIGJIGA, Ethiopia - Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday arrived in Jigjiga, the capital of the Somali regional state in eastern Ethiopia, first visit since he assumed office in mid-Juna 2022.

The Prime Minister was received at the airport by the President of the Somali Region Mustafe Muhammed Omar (Cagjar) and other officials with the city's security has been extremely tightened.

The Prime Minister will hold a meeting with the heads of the Somali region, the local community, and the security officials during his stay in his hometown, according to the sources.

The two sides will discuss the security cooperation and the fight against Al-Shabaab as the region borders Somalia, where the Al-Qaeda-linked group wreaked havoc and threatened neighbors.

Hamza Abdi Barre has traveled from Addis Ababa, where he met with the under-17 national soccer team after winning the East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) cup on Saturday.
