CAIRO, Egypt - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who arrived in Cairo on Sunday has on Monday received a cordial welcome from Egypt's leader Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

Mohamud and El-Sisi held bilateral talks at Ittihadiya Palace that focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, economic ties, and security and education cooperation between their two countries.

The Egypt visit is Mohamud's seventh foreign trip since he returned to power in May after winning the Horn of African country's presidential election against Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

Farmajo cut off ties with Arab and Africa freindy countries, including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya and Egypt during his years in Villa Somalia.

Before his Egypt trip, Mohamud visited UAE, Turkey, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, and Tanzania with aid to improve Somalia's relations with the world and the Horn of Africa region.

His frequent travel comes as half of his country's population [7.1 million] is hit by a severe drought that the UN is warning to turn into a famine due to the failure of the rains for the 4th year.
