Somalia president plans to change the mayor of Mogadishu - source

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The mayor of Mogadishu Omar Filish, for the first time excluded the National Security Council, which yesterday was chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The meeting was attended by ministers and military commanders and the president's security advisor. Filish was one of the officials who are very close to former president Abdullahi Farmajo.

Filish's lack of participation in the meeting is believed to have come from the top officials, with his deputy Ali Yare, who is a Farmajo crony heavily criticizing the president since his election in May.

Ali Yare termed it "unfortunate" that Villa Somalia did not include the mayor on the list of participants of the National Security Committee which brought together the president and PM Hamza.

However, a source within Villa Somalia tells KON that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is planning to sack Omar Filish from the position and replaced him with a new loyal governor.
