MOGADISHU Somalia - The new president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Sunday a bilateral meeting at his office the Italian foreign minister Luigi Di Maio.

Both sides agreed to reinforce Somalia and Italy historic relations and to fast track key areas of mutual benefit including education, cultural exchanges, military cooperation and development.

The foreign minister who arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday for a short hours visit assured Mohamud of Italy's support to his new administration to realise national goals.

Italy is at forefront of the Western countries providing finance, military and humanitarian assistance to Somalia on the path to full recovery after three decades of conflict.

Rome has an ambassy with permanent ambassador in Mogadishu and established close relationship with Somalia, country Italy had colonised in its Southern region after the World War two.
