MOGADISHU, Somalia – The new Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre has today announced his first appointment just a few days after taking over the office from his predecessor Mohamed Hussein Roble.

In a statement, Barre said he appointed directors of the divergent departments of the office of the prime minister and senior advisors, who will be in charge of the crucial day-to-day operations.

The appointees

1 – Mohamed Abukar Zubeyr, permanent secretary of the office of the prime minister. He previously served as director-general of the ministry of the constitution.

2 – Farhan Mohamed Jimale, the government spokesman. He is a former BBC Somali service journalist.

3 – Kamal Gutale, security advisor. He previously worked as chief of staff at Villa Somalia.

4 - Abdullahi Sharif, chief of protocol.

5 - Hashim Mohamed, the Director of Admin and Finance

6 – Ali Abdi Ware, reconciliation advisor. He is a former Puntland minister and Deni’s campaign team.

7 – Dr. Ahmednur M. Abdi, political advisor, and programs coordinator

8 – Dr. Hodon Osman, International relations advisor. She is the wife of the outgoing planning minister Gamal Mohamed Hassan, a close ally of former president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

The appointment comes as all eyes are on Barre’s announcement of the new cabinet. He was a member of parliament elected from his Jubaland state constituency before being picked as PM by Hassan Sheikh last month.
