Somaliland leader visits disputed city in northern Somalia

LAS ANOD, Somalia - The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi arrived today in Las Anod, the regional capital of Sool, where he was warmly welcomed by local officials and residents.

Bihi has been touring some of the districts and regions of Somaliland in recent days amid drought and political crisis with the election for the presidency which is slated for November nears.

Security has been extremely tightened ahead of the arrival of the leader by land with additional forces deployed to the streets to avert insecurity acts and the angry protesters storming his convoy.

Located in the north of Somalia, the Sool region, where President Muse Bihi arrived today witnessed deadly clashes between Somaliland and Puntland as the two sides compete for control.
