KISMAYO, Somalia – The leader of the Southwest State of Somalia Abdiaziz Lafta-Garen arrived in the southern port city of Kismayo on Wednesday for talks with his Jubaland counterpart Ahmed Madobe.
Madobe rolled a red carpet for Lafta-Garen upon arrival at the airport, where dozens of state MPs and officials lined up for the welcoming of the visiting Southwest regional delegation under tight security.

Southwest state president who is a close ally of Farmajo is trying to have an influence in the election of the seats representing clans hailing from his region whose constituencies are in Somalia’s Jubaland.
The ongoing election in Somalia is widely marred by fraud and irregularities that led the opposition presidential candidates to boycott it, vowing to form a national council to take charge of the country.
U.S. embassy in Mogadishu has on Wednesday urged the leaders of the five Federal States to avoid further delays and swiftly conclude credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.
