Ukraine grain ship with aid heads to Somalia - Zelensky

KYIV - The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 28,600 metric tons of grain/wheat will be delivered to Somalia in the coming weeks as the UN warns of famine by the end of 2022.

In a Twitter post, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will help the people who are dying of hunger and starvation as Somalia's drought situation has worsened due to 4 years of failed rainy seasons.

More than 7 million people, half of the population of the country are hit by the worst drought in 40 years.

Ukraine has been ravaged and destroyed by the incursion of Russia that began in February of this year which claimed the lives of thousands of people and forced millions to flee the country.

Zelenskyy's statement came as Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of diverting Ukrainian wheat to other parts of Europe instead to poor countries and the African continent.
