NEW YORK — The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met with the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations Assembly.
According to Villa Somalia, Guterres and Mohamud discussed several issues related to the Somalia crisis, mainly the drought response and the security as local forces fight against Al-Shabaab.
António Guterres congratulated President Mohamud on his election on May 15 and pledged cooperation between the Somali Government and the regional States to realize the country's goals.
The talks touched on the impact of climate change and the security situation with Somalia's president appealing for more support from the UN to move the country out of the current challenges.
