Villa Somalia blamed for the conflict in Bossaso and Beledweyne

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali politician Abdirahman Abdishakur, a member of the Union of the Presidential Candidates, has accused Villa Somalia, particularly outgoing President Farmajo, of fomenting civil war in the country and reverting to past conflicts.

Abdishakur, who took part in a Twitter space debate on the challenges facing the election, said Villa Somalia has been at loggerheads with the leaders of the regional states and clans for the past five years and is responsible for the fighting in Bossaso and Beledweyne.

He added that the culture of Villa Somalia is a force to be reckoned with and that they have made the country a constant source of conflict between Somali clans.

Farmajo, whose term had ended on Feb 8 of last year, had been trying since 2020 to stay in power beyond his mandate by disrupting the electoral process in Somalia.

The opposition leader welcomed the National Consultative Council meeting kicked off in Mogadishu on Sunday to fix the irregularities in the elections, which is chaired by PM Roble.

Farmajo was also accused of plotting a coup two times in 2021, the most recent took place on December 27 which was averted by the PM who enjoys internationa and local support.
