BELEDWEYNE, Somalia - The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiran region on Sunday afternoon after he inaugurated the new Galmudug state presidential palace in Dhusamareb city.

Hassan Sheikh, who spoke to the media in the city upon his arrival has once again vowed that the fight against Al-Shabaab will continue to liberate the group from the remaining areas in Somalia.

After Al-Shabaab faces defeats in Middle Shabelle, Hiran, and Galgadud, the president visited on Saturday the frontlines to meet the troops and local residents who made gains against Al-Shabaab.

The president added that the ongoing military operation will be expanded to Southwest and Jubaland states, where Al-Shabaab controls large swathes of territory long more than 10 years.

The federal government is very pleased with the efforts to liberate Galmudug and HirShabelle. As long as Al-Shabaab is in any part of our country, we will not rest," he said.

In addition, Hassan Sheikh promised that the government of Somalia will do reconstruction and development in all the areas freed from Al-Shabaab and deliver services to the local people.

Beledweyne has been the scene of deadly Al-Shabaab attacks this year with the local residents saying the militant group carried out the latest bombing after facing military pressure.
