A woman injured in blast near Kismayo airport
KISMAYO (KON) — At least one civilian woman was hurt in an IED explosion occurred Thursday in Somalia’s southern port city of Kismayo,Capital of Lower Jubba region, Keydmedia Online reports.
Reports said the bomb attack was used a remote-controlled landmine that hit a military-escorted convoy of AMISOM and Ras Kamboni forces that has been travelling on the main road that connects the airport to the city’s adminstarive center.
The troops were heading to Kismayo airport located 14 Km out of the city. Kenyan defense forces KDF are now in full control of the whole town, after the Al Qaeda –linked Al shabab insutgents withdrew in 2012.
Following the blast which took place at midday, the allied forces were reported to have opened fire that wounded a nearby woman, sources said. The victim was swiftly rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
There were no immediate reports of casualties inflicted on the troops, but the bomb explosion destroyed a military personnel carrier. Dark smoke was seen rising from the scene to the city sky as result of the blast.
No group has yet taken the responsibility for the attack.
