BELEDWEYNE, Somalia – A government-allied militia in central Somalia stepped up the war on Al-Shabaab amid military operations in several parts of the Horn of Africa country.

Ma’wisley, a locally mobilized clan militia launched an attack against the Al-Shabaab hideout in the Garasweyne area on the outskirts of Jalalaqsi in the Hiran region, leading to an hours-long gunfight, according to residents.

The fighting caused casualties on both sides, but the exact number still remains unclear.

Ma’wisley backs Somali military forces in the war on Al-Shabaab in the Hiran region, where the group killed 21 people in an attack on a convoy of trucks ferrying food from Beledweyne to Mahas town on Friday night.
