Al-Shabaab militants Flee key town as Somali army Advances

MOGADISHU, Somalia -  Al-Shabaab fighters were pulling out of the key southern Somali town of Adan Yabaal on Sunday, as government forces advanced on territory in the militant group's hands since the war began in August 2022.

Adan Yabaal is a major city in the Middle Shabelle region and its fall to SNA troops would be a big blow to Al-Shabaab as the group faces a multi-front offensive.

The recapturing of swathes of territory in the southern and central parts of Somalia has however been followed by a public uprising and US drone strikes that have inflicted heavy losses on Al-Shabaab.

The government forces regained control of El Baraf and Masajidka Ali Gadud and now heading to other Al-Shabaab positions in the region.

The troops engaged in heavy fighting in the Mabah area, although they later managed to defeat the terrorists on Saturday, according to the officials.

Colonel Saney Abdulle, the commander of the 4th Battalion of the 27th Division of the National Army said that Adan Yabaal will be in the hands of the army in the coming hours.

Sources say that the United States and Turkish forces based in the capital Mogadishu have bombed Al-Shabaab's defensive bases from the air, which forced the militants to flee.
