BELEDWEYNE, Somalia - A fierce battle that took place today in El-Qohle area of ​​the Hiran region killed several people, including a prominent Elder named Elmi Hagar Gure after an attack.

Gure was among the local residents who opted to fight against Al-Shabaab along the country's armed forces in the region. His death could deal a major blow to the ongoing liberation efforts.

Al-Shabaab attacked a position of the local militia and the SNA with an explosion that was followed by a gunfight between Ma'wisley and the government forces on one side and the militants.

The attack happened in El-Qohle, about 45KMs east of Moqokori town, which is under the control of the Somali government.

The elder was one of the leading elders who joined the fighting that led to the liberation of key areas of the Hiira region over the past few weeks, according to the military officials.
