LAMU, Kenya - An IED explosion has killed at least ten Kenyan soldiers in the coastal Lamu county near Somalia's porous border on Wednesday afternoon, Al-Shabaab claimed.
The roadside blast ripped through a military vehicle carrying Kenyan troops on the road between Kinyonga and Mirani areas in Lamu, during a patrol operation.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement posted on its affiliated websites, claiming it killed 10 Kenyan soldiers and wounded several others.
Kenyan military officials have not yet commented on the terrorist bombing, which becomes the latest in a series of attacks in Lamu County and nearby regions in northeastern Kenya.
Kenya suffered deadly attacks, including those targeted Westgate malls, Dusit D2 hotel, and Garissa University since sending its troops to Somalia in 2011 to fight Al-Shabaab. The terrorist group vowed to continue its cross-border raids as long as KDF remained in the country.
