Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the ambush attack, saying it killed three soldiers from the Ethiopian contingent of African Union troops in Somalia [AMISOM] on Wednesday.

Keydmedia Online was not able to immediately verify either of those claims.

The AU mission is yet to comment on the attack, which comes as AMISOM is preparing to hand over the security responsibility to the Somali national army [SNA] after 15 years in service.

On Tuesday, the State media reported that a US-aided special operation In the Hiran region has left at least 60 Al-Shabaab members and their commander dead and destroyed bases.

Ethiopia has a large number of non-AMISOM troops in Somalia who are accused of committing atrocities in the border regions, mainly in the Southwest state, were they battle Al-Shabaab.
