Brigadier General Liban Ali Yarow reinstated as army’s high court boss

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The president of Somalia announced on Wednesday that he reinstated Brigadier General Liban Ali Yarow as the chairman of the supreme military court.

In a statement, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Yarow will return to his work and will be taking over from Mohamud Ahmed Hassan [Dalab], a close ally and crony of former president Farmajo.

The reinstation came at the request of the defense minister Abdulkador Mohamed Nur who wants a strong leadership of the military court as the country is now at war with Al-Shabaab.

This is the 2nd time that Yarow is serving as the court's boss. He was first appointed in September 2014 by Mohamud while the defense ministry docket was held by Mohamed Sheikh Hassan.

Brigadier General Liban Ali Yarow was a well-known military court for the executions of terrorists nabbed by the security forces for their role in killings and bombings.

He was sacked by Farmajo last year and replaced with his staunch supporter Mohamud Dalab. The change comes as the security forces are making territorial gains in central Somalia.

The Brigadier General who studied master's degree at Naif Arab University Security Sciences in Saudi Arabia has previously served as the Chairman of the First decree Court of Armed Forces.
