Car bomb followed by gunfire heard at Kismayo hotel

KISMAYO, Somalia - Al-Shabaab carried out an attack that began with an explosion from a car laden with explosives in the southern strategic port city of Kismayo, which houses Jubaland state.

A witness told Keydmedia's English Service that the bomber rammed his car bomb into the gate of the Tawakal hotel and was followed by gunfire between attackers and the security forces.

The security forces are currently dealing with the gunmen who stormed the hotel. There was no immediate report on the casualties resulting from the blast and the gunfire that started at noon.

It is not known the number of militants inside the hotel and fighting the security forces, although there are many people who are held as hostages.
