Car bomb kills an official in Somalia’s capital

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The deputy Yaqshid district commissioner Moalim Hussein Filla-wayne died last night in an explosion in the Karaan district with the capital city of Somalia, police said.

The explosion resulted from an explosive device fitted to the official's car and was detonated in the Buulo Mahay village while on the way to his residence. Filla-wayne has died on the spot.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing which comes amid heavy police presence on the main streets in the country's capital, searching routinely public vehicles during the night.

The killing of the deputy DC is part of the insecurity that is currently happening in Mogadishu. Last week, Al-Shabaab laid a deadly 3-hour siege at Hayat hotel at KM4 junction, killing 21 people.

The newly elected president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared last week "an all-out" offensive to liberate Al-Shabaab from the entire country to bring an end to the long-running terrorist menace.

Mohamud made the remarks following the hotel attack which Al-Shabaab intended to show its presence and test the power of the new government which is now mobilizing a military push against the group.
