Galmudug silent on Farmajo’s term extension

DHUSAMAREB, Somalia - The Galmudug State is yet to either denounce and applaud the extension term made by the acting Parliament that gives the outgoing President a two-year mandate to stay in power until 2023.

The move divided the states in line with those closely siding with the government politically openly welcomed the decision while others found nothing legal to agree with.

Ahmed Abdi Kariye alias (QoorQoor) who was relatively siding with the outgoing President during the ongoing poll talks they had with the other state leaders acted as the right-hand man of Farmaajo since he has sworn in office as Galmudug leader.

Earlier last week, Kariye made it clear that if the outgoing President were to declare himself as a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, in his eyes, he should be just like any other candidate in an interview and that the people of this country have the right to see transformation in power to happen peacefully.

“There is no room for extension term and I wouldn’t have to advocate for it,” he mentioned during the interview.

Given the fact the outgoing President has made his way into Villa Somalia for two more years, Qoorqoor who is previously reportedly thought to have taken aside with Farmaajo is yet to challenges why it’s so necessary to do extension or simply agree.

Last night, the state-run television of SNTV claimed that the leaders of Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and South-west State welcomed the extension with the two unanimously agreed.

Galmudug is now caught on the firing line as the leaders of Jubbaland and Puntland already pronounced that decision.
