Galmudug security officials said that foreigners were rescued in an area located between Hobyo and Haradhere, the main Al-Shabaab stronghold in Mudug province.

Al-Shabaab was driven out of key areas in central Somalia by Somali troops backed by the local residents who took the arms to liberate their territory.

Al-Shabaab has torched down water wells and telecommunications masts in the region in the latest attacks amid military operations in the country.

Clan clashes are common in Somalia, mainly in the rural areas, where dispute over grazzing feilds and water well lead to bloody skirmish everytime.
