BOSSASO, Somalia - Puntland forces have killed dozens of foreign fighters belonging to Al-Shabaab and ISIS in operations on the outskirts of Bossaso, the capital of the Bari region located northeast Somalia.

The extremists died in the latest military offensive in the mountain ranges near Bossaso, the commercial city of Puntland on the Gulf of Aden, where the Islamic State and Al-Shabaab militants have hideouts.

Abdisamad Gallan, the security minister of Puntland has confirmed the death of the foreign Jihadists to the local media, adding that the regional forces seized military equipment, arms as well as medical kits.

The two terrorist groups have been gaining momentum in the attacks against Puntland security forces in the past few months as the regional state is trying to flush them out of their bases before the elections.

The security minister has survived a bomb attack that targeted his convoy around the Balidhidin area just outside Qandala town last month by Al-Shabaab, a raid that prompted the current massive clean-up operations.
