Mogadishu streets, airport shut down ahead of Guelleh’s arrival

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The overall Security in the Somali capital Mogadishu has been beefed up significantly ahead of the scheduled arrival of a high-level delegation on Wednesday.

The main streets in the city, including those around the airport and the presidential palace, are inaccessible and shut down from pedestrians and public transport to avert Al-Shabaab attacks.

Multiple security sources confirmed to Keydmedia English that a number of high-level delegations are expected to arrive in Mogadishu today, including Djibouti president Ismail Omar Guelleh.

Aden Barre Duale, Kenya's defense minister is also scheduled to land at Aden Abdulle International airport. Duale was in Jubaland for the past few days on a visit to KDF bases during Christmas.

The visiting delegations are set to hold talks with his Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, along with other top government officials at Villa Somalia. The aim of their visit remains unclear.

There is a security warning that Al-Shabaab is planning terror attacks on some streets in Mogadishu, including Makka Al-Mukarama and KM4 junction, high-traffic streets around the airport.
