Mogadishu’s deputy mayor car targeted in roadside bomb

MOGADISHU, Somalia - At least one child died and 11 others were injured after an IED explosion in Dayniile district of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, the latest in a series of terrorist attacks.

The remote-controlled landmine blast targeted the car of the deputy Mogadishu mayor Ali Yare. The official was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack which killed one of his bodyguards.

The wounded include family members who were caught in the explosion while driving their own car in the area, according to an eyewitness, who spoke to Keydmedia English by phone.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing, however, the police in the city pointed the finger of the blame on the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group.

It's the second bombing in a week. Last Saturday, October 29, two car bomb explosions outside the ministry of education in Zoobe area killed at least 121 people and wounded 334 others.
