Puntland court hands down death sentences to five terrorists

GAROWE, Somalia - A court in Somalia’s northeastern Puntland regional state has handed down the death sentence to five terrorists for a string of blasts and targeted killings in Bossaso port city.

The men – Jama Aden, Ayub Omar, Abdullahi Salad, Mohamed Abshir, and Abdirahman Isse have, at separate times, carried out attacks for Al-Shabaab and ISIS-linked factions in Puntland’s Bari region.

The regional military court announced that Isse Ahmed was sentenced in Absentia. The four other terrorists will face the firing squad in the coming weeks. Al-Shabaab didn’t comment on the sentence.

Speaking to the reporters, the chairperson of the Puntland Army court, Abditifah Haji Aden said the five were behind several murders involving senior officials which have been carried out in Bosaso.

Located on the Gulf of Aden, Puntland has been battling Al-Shabaab and Islamic State militants as its military court sentenced individuals linked to terrorism to tough punishments such as the death penalty.
