MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali army chief has confirmed that at least 5 people died and 11 were injured after a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Gen Dhagabadan Army Training Camp in southern Mogadishu on Sunday evening.

Speaking to the state media, General Odawaa Yusuf Rage said that the person who carried out the attack hid among new military recruits lined up for enrolment of the new batch to send to training.

The commander added that an investigation began to find out how the Al-Shabaab bomber managed to enter the camp with an explosive device as the facility has checkpoints to screen the people.

There were several other explosions including mortars in Mogadishu last night. The attack comes a week after at least 121 people were killed in twin car bomb blasts in the busy Zoobe area.
