MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somalia said its troops backed by a local militia aka Ma'wisley have taken over the control of Ruun Nirgood District in the Middle Shabelle Region from Al-Shabaab.

Speaking to the reporters in Mogadishu on Thursday, the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense Gen. Abdullahi Ali Anood confirmed the capture of the town, 245 km north of the capital.

Continuing, Gen Anod added that at least 150 Al-Shabaab members were killed in the operation while 15 were captured alive. The spokesman said the dead include 5 foreign fighters.

The allied forces are now in full control of Ruun Nirgood, the last district the terrorists ruled for 15 years, and started searching for landmines," he said.
