MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali National Army (SNA) has launched an operation against Al-Shabaab militants in villages under Janale district in the Lower Shabelle region, particularly in the villages of Busley and Ugunji.

Somali military officials told Keydmedia English Service that at least seven Al-Shabaab members were killed in the operation and multiple weapons and military equipment were seized during the anti-al-Shabaab push.

Meanwhile, the US-trained elite Danab forces carried out a similar raid against Al-Shabaab hideout in Aliyow Barow village under Walanweyn district in the same region against Al-Shabaab.

The Commander of the 16th Battalion of the Danab, Hassan Mohamed Osman, said an Al-Shabaab official identified as Nuh Dhag, who was in charge of collecting forceful tax from residents, was killed in the operation.

He added that the operations in the Lower Shabelle region will continue until they remove Al-Shabaab from the areas still remained under the group's control.

The lower Shabelle region is one of the main battlegrounds between government and AMISOM forces on the one side and Al-Shabaab, the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group which wants tp outs the UN-backed administration in Mogadishu.
