Somali cabinet holds meeting on fight against Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The cabinet held a weekly session in the presidential palace, Villa Somalia on Thursday to discuss the current security and political situation in the Horn Africa country.

Prime minister Hamza Abdi Barre chaired the meeting which approved 12 points pertaining to government military plans to flush Al-Shabaab out of the remaining pockets and post-stabilization.

According to a statement obtained by Keydmedia English, the cabinet gave the nod to the appointment of a new deputy chairman of the central bank of Somalia Dr. Ali Yasin Sheikh.

The council of the ministers agreed to accelerate the efforts to deliver government services and humanitarian aid to the people in the newly recaptured areas in central Somalia as drought bites.

A report issued on the 100th day of Hamza as PM, which was released on Wednesday said as many as 600 Al-Shabaab members were killed and 1,200 others wounded in the past three months.
