BELEDWEYNE, Somalia – A Day after a triple car bomb blast killed at least 40 people in Beledweyne city, Somali troops seized back more territory from Al-Shabaab, threatening supply lines for the militants.

Somalia's national army [SNA] said Tuesday it recaptured Yasoman, a small but strategic town in the eastern Hiran region from Al-Shabaab without facing resistance.

Yasoman which lies outside Bulo-Burde town was the group’s main stronghold that it used for 13 years as a base for its shadow court and to extort money from local farmers and pastoralists whose resources were shattered by the ongoing drought.

The local militia known as Macwisley backed the SNA up in this latest offensive against the militants who are facing heavy military pressure from multiple fronts as the country prepared to regain full control.

Somalia has made significant advances in the Al-Shabaab-held regions, including Hiran and Galgadud after what the government called an “all-out war” supported by the residents to defeat Al-Shabaab.

At any cost, president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said his country will leave no stone unturned to be free from Al-Shabaab next year, calling on the citizens to back the SNA to realize the goal of liberation.

Last month, Somalia's government said the military expelled Al-Shabaab out of dozens of key villages during deadly and heavy clashes that killed more than 200 militants.
