Somali military court executes Al-Shabaab operatives for bombing

MOGADISHU, Somalia - A top military court in Mogadishu on Monday morning executed three men, who were convicted of being members of Al-Shabaab and carrying out bomb attacks.

Hassan Ali Moalim Barre, Isak Kerow Aden, and Nur Ibrahim Mahad-alle were shot dead by a firing squad at the police academy in the capital early in the morning, a court judge announced.

Barre was found to be the driver of a car bomb that exploded in the market of the Kawa Godey area in Wadajir district, which killed 12 people and injured dozens in November 2018.

Aden participated in killings and attacks in Lower Shabelle, Banadir, and Hiran regions in Somalia. He killed two people in Mogadishu's Suq Ba'ad and Weydow in grenade attacks.

Nur Ibrahim Mahad-alle, according to the military court delivered IED that killed Mahaas district deputy commissioner in 2019. He was a police officer before joining the Al-Shabaab group.

Since last week, the court executed five Al-Shabaab and Daesh operatives. It comes as the government is battling Al-Shabaab in central regions, in an attempt to regain the country's control.
