MOGADISHU, Somalia - The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday opened the second session of the country's Federal parliament as MPs are back from a two-month recess.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre, the speakers of the two Houses, and chairpersons of the regional assemblies invited as guests.

In his speech, the president gave the lawmakers a report on the situation in Somalia, especially the ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab which saw the liberation of dozens of areas.

Hassan Sheikh has also shared with the Parliament the outcomes of various trips he has made to some countries around the world, including Eritrea, where 5,000 Somali soldiers were trained.

Eritrea has been training Somali youths recruited and sent secretly by former NISA director Fahad Yasin during Farmajo's regime. The clandestine training mission was funded by Qatar.

Finally, the president asked the Parliament both Lower and Upper Houses to contribute to the ongoing efforts in the country and also the implementation of the important laws in front of it.
