Somali president calls on citizens to join fight against Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on the public to raise up and unite against the liberation of the country from the Al-Shabaab militant group.

Speaking at the Janaza of slain Mogadishu police commissioner Brigadier General Farhan Qarole at the Martyrs' Mosque in Villa Somalia, Mohamud said: We have one enemy which is Al-Shabaab."

Farhan Qorole was a hero who was determined to free the terrorists from his country and protect his Somali people, and this hero martyred while fighting the enemy of this country," he added.

The president asked all "capable" Somalis to join the fight against Al-Shabaab, and unite their strength and wisdom at this critical moment when the country was on a path to peace and prosperity.

It is not common sense for us to accept their murderous actions. Every Somali has a duty to play his part in the fight against terrorism," said Hassan Sheikh.

The President urged the businessmen to stop paying the forceful tax to Al-Shabaab, which uses the money to invest in terror acts against the people and the country's government.

The top leaders at Villa Somalia all expressed readiness for the defeat of Al-Shabaab after the murder of Farhan Qarole, who died in an IED explosion near the Basra area, 35Km north of Mogadishu on Friday while taking part in an operation against Al-Shabaab.
