MOGADISHU, Somalia - The U.S. military-trained Somali special forces dubbed DANAB have launched a planned operation in Yaq Beriweyne area of ​​the Lower Shabelle region.

DANAB which means (Lightning) is headquartered in Baledogle, a Soviet-built airbase about 100km north of Mogadishu. It was reconstituted as a US military base in 2012.

The Elite troops comprised of more than 850 soldiers play a key role in the counter-terrorism operations in Somalia, working along with the American forces from the U.S. Afric command.
